Visiting Vietnam and wondering what to do in Da Nang? Here are the best things to do in Da Nang, Vietnam, for an epic trip to Vietnam’s Hawaii. It’s a city full of cultural sites, sandy beaches, delicious cuisine, bustling markets, and friendly locals. Its laidback vibe makes it one of my favorite cities in Vietnam. It’s also easy to get around, with loads of things to do without being too busy, like Hanoi or Saigon. So, here’s what you must do, eat, and see in Da Nang!

What is Da Nang Famous For?

Da Nang is a coastal city right in the middle of Vietnam, known for its chill, laidback vibes and gorgeous beaches. Seriously, if you’re a beach lover, this place might steal your heart. People call it the “Hawaii of Vietnam,” and it lives up to the hype with its endless stretches of soft sand and clear blue waters.

If you’ve been to Korea, Da Nang is the equivalent to Busan!

But it’s not just about the beaches—Da Nang is also famous for its fresh, mouthwatering seafood. Whether you’re feasting on grilled fish at a beachside stall or diving into a bowl of refreshing che, the food is tasty and fresh. It’s the kind of place where you can kick back, relax, and really soak in the good vibes.

The city’s vibe is a unique mix of modern and traditional, with sleek bridges and skyscrapers standing alongside ancient temples and local markets.

Da Nang is where you can spend the morning exploring cultural sites like the Marble Mountains and then spend the afternoon sipping coconut water on the beach.

Is Da Nang, Vietnam, Worth Visiting?

Absolutely, yes! Da Nang is definitely worth a visit. It offers something a bit different compared to other cities in Vietnam.

While it’s a decently large city, it has a much more laid-back and calm vibe than the bustling metropolises of Saigon or Hanoi.

You won’t find the same overwhelming crowds here, which makes for a more relaxed experience overall.

The city strikes a fantastic balance, giving you access to beautiful natural spots, exciting entertainment options, and the scenic Han River.

The pace of life in Da Nang is slower and more soothing, making it the perfect place to unwind while still enjoying the perks of city living.

It’s hands down my favorite city in Vietnam to visit. If you’re looking for a blend of relaxation and adventure, Da Nang should definitely be on your travel list and Vietnam itinerary!

Dragon Bridge

One of the most iconic Da Nang attractions, the Dragon Bridge, is something you’ve got to see to believe.

Stretching over 666 meters across the Han River, this impressive structure connects the city’s two sides with a unique twist—a massive dragon head perched at the west end of the bridge. And it’s not just for show.

This dragon comes to life at night, breathing fire and spouting water that’s a must-see for anyone visiting Da Nang.

The show is only on Saturday and Sunday, starting at 9 PM when the fire-breathing show begins. It only lasts 3 minutes, so make sure you’re there on time. The bridge lights up in vibrant colors, and the dragon’s fiery breath is visible from quite a distance.

For the best view, head to the sidewalk near the entrance to the night market. From there, you’ll have a front-row seat to the action without getting too close to the heat. And believe me, you don’t want to be too close—the fire is so intense, you can feel the warmth from several feet away!

Son Tra Night Market

If you want to dive into the local scene in Da Nang, the Son Tra Market (Chợ Đêm Sơn Trà) is where you need to be. Every night, this bustling market comes alive with dozens of food and shopping stalls that offer just about anything you can imagine.

From trinkets and electronics to clothing and accessories, you’ll find it all here—and the best part? It’s all incredibly cheap. Seriously, you can score some great deals if you’re willing to hunt around a bit. I got an amazing blue knit sweater for $5!

One thing to remember—bring cash. Most of the stalls (and Vietnam) don’t take cards, and you’ll want to have some dong on hand to snag bargains and yummy snacks.

And speaking of snacks, the food here is unreal. The market is packed with various eats, but the seafood is the real star. We’re talking shrimp, oysters, lobster, and so much more, all fresh and cooked right before you. It’s a seafood lover’s dream come true.

The market typically kicks off around 5 PM and continues until late into the night, so you have plenty of time to explore, eat, and shop to your heart’s content. Just be ready for the sensory overload—it’s a whirlwind of sights, sounds, and, of course, delicious smells. It’s one of my favorite things to do in Da Nang at night!

Ba Na Hills

Ba Na Hills is like stepping into a whole different world.

Perched high in the mountains outside Da Nang, this place is home to the largest indoor amusement park in the world. But it’s not just the rides that draw people in. Ba Na Hills is famous for its charming little European town. It is complete with cobblestone streets and old-world architecture, the iconic Golden Bridge held by massive stone Buddha hands, and a towering Buddha statue that watches over it all.

The amusement park itself has an interesting backstory. It was originally built as a retreat for French colonists looking to escape the sweltering Vietnamese heat, and you can still feel that cool, refreshing mountain air when you’re up there.

To reach Ba Na Hills, you’ll take a cable car that takes you up the mountain. The views alone are worth the ride—you’ll be floating above lush forests.

Once you’re up there, your ticket gives you access to different park areas, and cable cars are the only way to get around, so make sure you’re ready for some hopping on and off. Note: the park has different hours depending on the season, so make sure you check so you don’t miss out on anything.

Getting to Ba Na Hills is pretty straightforward. The best way to get there is by taxi or Grab, Vietnam’s version of Uber. Public transportation is basically nonexistent in Vietnam, so having a car is necessary to get around. But don’t worry—taxis are cheap, so they won’t break the bank.

Marble Mountain

This group of five limestone mountains stands tall and proud, visible from just about any viewpoint in the city. Each mountain is named after one of the five elements: metal, wood, water, fire, and earth.

Together, they create a landscape that’s as mystical as it is beautiful—Marble Mountain is packed with caves, temples, and hidden sanctuaries where you can feel peace and tranquility.

Getting to these hidden gems takes a bit of effort, though. You’ll need to climb about 156 steep steps to reach the caves, so be sure to wear comfortable shoes and be prepared for a bit of a workout. But trust me, the climb is worth it. As you ascend, you’re rewarded with stunning views of Da Nang and the surrounding countryside.

Once you’re at the top, take your time to wander through the temples, admire the intricate carvings, and maybe even find a quiet spot to soak in the peaceful atmosphere.

Eat Banh Xeo

When it comes to food in Da Nang, there are a few dishes you can’t leave without trying—Mi Quang, Bun Cha Ca, and, of course, Banh Xeo.

But if there’s one spot you absolutely have to eat at, it’s Bánh Xèo Bà Dưỡng. Trust me, this place is legendary for a reason. I literally dream about their crispy, savory Vietnamese crepes. It’s one of the best local restaurants in Da Nang and they’re also on the Michelin guide!

Banh Xeo Ba Duong specializes in a smaller version of the traditional Banh Xeo, and they do it so well it’ll ruin you for all other crepes.

The crepes are perfectly crispy on the outside, with a deliciously savory filling that hits all the right notes. You wrap these little crepes in rice paper, add a handful of fresh herbs, and dip them into a fish-peanut sauce that’s so good, you’ll want to drink it.

Located down a small alley, Banh Xeo Ba Duong is the definition of a hidden gem. You’ll see locals pouring in because everyone knows it’s the best. Don’t let the tucked-away location fool you—this spot is super famous, and for good reason. If you only have time for one meal in Da Nang, make it this one. You won’t regret it.

Shop at Han Market

Han Market is your go-to spot if you’re hunting for souvenirs in Da Nang. This bustling market is packed with a treasure trove of items that make perfect keepsakes from your trip.

From traditional ao dai dresses and specialty foods to tropical fruits, small trinkets, and stylish bags, you’ll find almost any souvenir you can think of. It’s especially popular for buying knock-off merchandise like designer bags, sports team jerseys, shoes, and more.

The market is touristy, so the prices won’t be as cheap as local markets. Still, it’s similar in price to other markets across Vietnam, especially for popular souvenirs like woven bags, Vietnamese hats, and more.

Plus, haggling is common and almost expected in all markets. You’ll be able to browse a wide range of souvenirs all in one place, making it super convenient.

Visit Coffee Shops

If you’re a coffee enthusiast, Vietnam’s coffee scene will blow your mind. Seriously, it’s on another level. Cafes here are more than just places to grab a quick cup of coffee—they’re social hubs where you can chill out, try inventive coffee drinks, and marvel at some seriously stylish interior design.

In Da Nang, cute coffee shops are on every street, each with its own unique vibe. Whether you’re into cozy nooks with vintage charm or sleek, modern spaces with Instagram-worthy decor, you’ll find a spot that suits your style. There’s a whole world of coffee to explore, and each cafe offers something unique.

One of my personal favorites is Reply 1988 Cafe. This place is a Korean-style cafe that’s both charming and aesthetic, with cute drinks that also taste good! It’s also a two story cafe, so there’s tons of room to sit and chat.

And when you’re in Da Nang, make sure to try some local coffee specialties. Salt coffee and coconut coffee are must-tries. The salt coffee has a unique, slightly savory twist that might surprise you, while the coconut coffee is a creamy, refreshing slushie perfect for cooling down.

Go to the Beach

Da Nang truly lives up to its nickname as the “Hawaii of Vietnam” with its stunning coastline and beautiful beaches. If you’re a beach lover, you’re in for a treat. The city’s coast is lined with gorgeous stretches of sand and inviting blue water that’s perfect for lounging, swimming, or simply soaking up the sun.

The most famous beach is My Khe Beach, and for good reason. Imagine soft, powdery sand underfoot, clear, sparkling water, and palm trees swaying gently in the breeze.

It’s a beach where you can kick back and relax or dive into some beachside fun. And if you’re lucky, you might catch a glimpse of local fishermen walking into the sea, casting their nets and gathering fresh fish and crabs right before your eyes. Seeing traditional fishing practices in action against such a picturesque backdrop is a real treat.

The beach isn’t just about the sun and sea. Tons of restaurants line the shore, serving up everything from fresh seafood to tasty local dishes.

Small vendors walk up and down the beach, offering snacks, drinks, and souvenirs. It’s like having your own little beachside marketplace where you can grab a refreshing coconut or a delicious bite without ever having to leave the sand.

Ride a Motorbike

If you want to experience Vietnam truly, you have to ride a motorbike. There’s simply no better way to navigate the bustling streets and soak in the sights and sounds of the country.

Traffic here can be crazy, with vehicles zipping in and out of lanes like they’re playing an intricate game of bumper cars. It feels like there are no lanes at all, just a constant flow of cars, scooters, and bikes all moving in harmony—or at least trying to!

Given the traffic chaos, a motorbike is your best bet for getting around quickly and efficiently. Booking a bike is a breeze with Grab, Vietnam’s version of Uber. It’s super cheap and easy—just order a ride, hop on with the driver, and you’re off!

Helmets are always provided, so safety is covered while you navigate the city’s energetic streets. Rest your feet on the footrests of the motorbike, and hang on! After a while, you’ll get comfortable sitting without holding on to the driver.

It may seem daunting at first but don’t worry. Riding a motorbike is a way of life here, and the locals are experts at it. Just keep an eye on your belongings—since you’re so close to other motorcyclists, it’s easy for pickpockets.

But once you get the hang of it, you’ll find that riding a motorbike is practical and a thrilling way to explore Vietnam’s vibrant streets and hidden corners. It’s my favorite way to get around!

Sơn Trà Mountain

Sơn Trà Mountain, often called Monkey Mountain, is one of the only places you can see the endangered langur monkeys. It’s covered in a dense forest, and as you make your way up, you’ll be surrounded by towering trees and vibrant plants. In the afternoons, you’ll see these playful monkeys everywhere.

Don’t worry too much about the monkeys—while they’re all around, they’re generally pretty chill as long as you don’t try to feed them or make direct eye contact. Just keep your snacks and shiny objects tucked away, and you’ll be fine. The monkeys are more interested in their own monkey business than in causing any trouble.

One of the standout features of Sơn Trà Mountain is the colossal Lady Buddha statue that stands proudly on the summit. This stunning statue adds a spiritual touch to the landscape and offers incredible panoramic views of Da Nang.

From there, you can take in sweeping vistas of the city and the coastline, making it a fantastic spot for sightseeing and photo ops.

Get Your Nails Done

You’re in the right place if you’re looking for a bit of pampering while in Vietnam! Whether you want to unwind with a massage, get a fresh haircut, or indulge in a manicure, Vietnam has you covered.

While I’m not the biggest fan of massages, I’m all about getting my nails done, and Da Nang has plenty of options for that.

The city is brimming with nail salons, each offering a range of services catering to all your needs. From basic manicures to elaborate nail art, you’ll find dozens of places where you can treat yourself.

One of the great things about getting your nails done in Vietnam is the value you get. Many tourists flock here specifically for beauty treatments because you can enjoy top-notch services at a fraction of the price you’d pay back home. For a gel manicure with designs, I paid $20 with tip! Which wouldn’t even get you a regular nail manicure in the US.

However, be aware that most nail salons in Vietnam operate on a reservation basis, so it’s best to make an appointment beforehand. You can easily get in touch with salons via Instagram or WhatsApp, which also makes it convenient to use translation apps if needed.

I personally loved my experience at Suzy Nails & Foot Massage, where the service was fantastic, and the results were just what I wanted.

So, if you’re in Da Nang and need some nail TLC, book ahead and get ready for a relaxing and enjoyable experience. Your nails (and your mood) will thank you!

Take a Day Trip to Hoi An

If you’ve ever seen those stunning lantern-lit photos on travel blogs or Instagram, chances are they’re from Hoi An, the city of lanterns!

This charming town, just a 45-minute drive from Da Nang, transforms into a magical wonderland at night when colorful lanterns illuminate the streets. It’s a sight that’s as enchanting as it sounds, with countless photo opportunities and a vibrant, romantic atmosphere.

Hoi An’s lanterns are famous for a reason. As the sun sets, the whole town glows with red, yellow, and blue hues, creating a mesmerizing display perfect for strolling through and snapping pictures. The narrow streets and ancient buildings provide a picturesque backdrop, making it a dream for photographers and romantics alike.

You can even light your own lantern and release it into the river, like in Tangled!

While a day trip from Da Nang is definitely doable, I’d recommend staying in Hoi An a bit longer if you have the time. The town has a lot to offer, from its historic architecture and bustling markets to its delicious local cuisine and charming cafes.

The best way to get to Hoi An is by car, and you can easily use Grab or book a private vehicle for a comfortable and hassle-free journey. You can ask your accommodation in Da Nang if they have any special offers or partnerships with local drivers—sometimes, they have deals that can make your trip even smoother.

So, make sure to carve out some time in your itinerary for a visit to Hoi An!

Walk Along the Han River

One of the best ways to soak in the beauty of Da Nang is to take a leisurely stroll along the Han River. This river runs through the heart of the city, neatly dividing it into the eastern and western sides before flowing out into Da Nang Bay.

The riverbanks are lined with paved walkways that make for a perfect relaxing stroll. As you walk, you’ll see art installations and seasonal decorations that add a touch of charm and character to your walk. There are also small gardens here and there with blooming flowers or other tropical plants.

There’s always something visually interesting to catch your eye, whether it’s colorful lights during festivals or quirky sculptures dotted along the path. I was in Da Nang near the Lunar New Year, and the entire riverside was covered in festive lanterns, lights, and decorations ushering in the year of the Rabbit.

Walking along the Han River gives you a unique perspective of the city. It’s a chance to see Da Nang from a different angle, away from the hustle and bustle of the streets. As you stroll along, you’ll enjoy sweeping views of the river, the city skyline, and even the occasional glimpse of local life.

How Many Days in Da Nang is Enough?
